IT Applicants: 6 Signs that You Have Found the Right Employee!

Do you know the feeling when a candidate attests that he is really interested in the position, but in the end accepts the offer from the competitor? You ask yourself, what do I need to know to be sure I've hired the right developer? Here are 6 characteristics you can use to determine if the candidate, is the right fit for the job.

1. the candidate is in constant contact with you

First of all, if the candidate is really interested in the new position, the candidate cares to be in constant exchange with you. Of course, this is not a matter of constantly asking for the latest recruiting status. However, if the candidate does not respond to e-mails for a few days, or does not respond to agreed phone calls, you should be aware that the candidate is not sure whether he/she wants to work with you.

2. demands detailed answers about a specific position

If a developer is seriously looking for a job, he wants to get all job relevant information about a position (of course most developers are already well informed about "devjobs" :-)).

A really interested developer, will not fail to ask about the working conditions, projects, technologies the team size and about the equipment he will work with. The potential colleague can't wait to talk to a technical expert to find out even more details and specifics about the vacant position.

3. he does not speak negatively about his previous employers.

Even if the candidate is disappointed with his current or former employer, he should not share this information with you. If you hear a lot of negative statements, secrets or even rumors about the former employer from the candidate, the proverbial red light should be on with you. In this situation, you suspect that you have come across a conflict person with whom it is very difficult to work together. The candidate may be a good fit for the job, but do you want to recommend someone who may quit right away?

4. the candidate has perfect knowledge of the company he/she has applied to

Detailed knowledge about a potential job or workplace is further proof that the candidate is truly interested in the offer. A person who knows perfectly the scope of services provided by the company, keeps up to date with all the news from the life of the company, takes the recruitment process seriously and is open to a concrete job offer. Another sign that the candidate is exactly what you are looking for is the fact that he always knows your name as well. The certainty that the candidate has carefully read all the messages or communications from you additionally underlines his will to want to get the job.

5. remembers scheduled appointments and interviews.

If the candidate really wants to work in a particular company, he does not forget any interview and has noted down every other appointment. This person looks forward to each step in the recruitment process because it improves his chance to work with the company he wants to spend his future with.

He wants to get the most out of every contact and is never late for interviews or meetings. He knows that only thanks to the right behavior, he has the chance to get the job that is important to him.

6. is aware of his strengths and weaknesses.

The last characteristic does not directly reflect whether the candidate is interested in the given position, but allows conclusions to be drawn about future cooperation.

Is the person to be recruited above average self-confident and perhaps unaware of his weaknesses? Does the candidate not want to learn anything new because he claims to know everything? Then the fact that future cooperation may be very difficult is to be expected. Such candidates constantly increase their demands and financial expectations, which is why it can be difficult to employ this person despite good knowledge.

Remember, "soft skill" is very important in IT as well. Even the fact that a person perfectly fits the requirements does not guarantee that this person will fit the company and the team.
