In the early 20th century, agricultural cooperatives were established in response to the plight of farmers. Under the leadership of Mayor Alois Ullrich, Gmünd's Agricultural Cooperative was founded at a meeting on May 25th, 1919. The cooperative initially operated out of rented office space on the city square in Gmünd.
