Dealing with different forms of employment

Dealing with different forms of employment

Regardless of whether it is a talent manager or good, old-fashioned HR staff - most future-oriented companies have a team that is dedicated to adapting to the "future of work". And when companies think about the future of their company and their workforce, they not only ask themselves which type of employees they should hire, but increasingly also in what form (for example, as a freelancer, part-timer,...) they should hire the people.

So, what is the problem?

The inclusion of freelancers offers many advantages, including flexibility, cost savings, and access to a larger talent pool. Additionally, freelancers can often become full-time employees if the arrangement is successful. At the same time, they can save an organization valuable time in finding the right full-time employee, without risking the costs of a recruiting mistake.

It sounds great, right? Unfortunately, the world is not all sunshine and rainbows.

Fragmented teams

Problems can occur on both sides. Freelancers who don't feel appreciated don't do their best work. And when you hire employees, you also need to make sure they feel welcome in the company.

Communication

Communication is a two-way process that can cause problems on both ends. freelancers and other employees or team members may have different ideas about what should be communicated, when, and how. When freelancers and regular employees have different schedules - whether in different time zones or simply different work hours - coordination is disrupted.

Comprehension

Employee classification or rating problems can be complex. How an employee is classified determines to some extent how you can work with him, including controlling his daily work and when he works.

Fair compensation

Qualitative freelancers are not cheap - and they shouldn't be.

Keeping track of a fair compensation for all your employees can be difficult, especially when they're paid differently (i.e. salary, hourly wage, daily rate, per project, etc.). However, salary data can give you a better idea of what "fair pay" would look like in your specific context.
